Some of my iTunes music is marked as "protected" and won't play on my Samsung phone. Other music in my ITunes library that I moved to my Samsung does play. How did music get marked as "protected" and how do I change it so it will play on my Samsung?

Prior to 2010 Apple sold tracks in a 128k AAC DRM (digital rights management) protected format that would only play in Apple's hardware and software. Should you have any of these tracks they can be burned to audio CD then ripped back as DRM-free files for a small, perhaps negligible, loss of quality. Content from the Apple Music subscription service is also protected with DRM, but cannot be converted in the same manner.
