Batch Renaming for Images

Hi, I believe that Windows users can do this but I was wondering if Mac users can as well.

Let's say I have 2 batches of files:

JULIA.jpg

JULIA_1.jpg

JULIA_2.jpg

ERIN.jpg

ERIN_1.jpg

ERIN_2.jpg

but I need everything with 'JULIA' to turn into 'ABCDEF' and 'ERIN' to turn into 'GHIJKL', so that it's now:

ABCDEF.jpg

ABCDEF_1.jpg

ABCDEF_2.jpg

GHIJKL.jpg

GHIJKL_1.jpg

GHIJKL_2.jpg

I understand I could do this manually, but my job requires that I rename thousands of images, so I would prefer finding a way to do this via excel or Numbers, instead of manually copying and pasting them in a Rename Changer app.

This is not a task I normally undertake.

So it may not even be as hard as I was thinking. There seems to be a robust renaming feature already in macOS.

A quick search turned up this article from a reasonably-relaible source:

that sounds like a job including Terminal command grep.

it might also be doable with Apple-Script commands.

Can you elaborate on either of those options? Is there a place I could do some research on it?
