I have a MC007LL/A Cinema Display that I used with an older MacBook that is no longer supported. I obtained a Mac Mini (great box) and want to use the display... possible? Hooking it up with adapter doesn't work... this model doesn't have a power button... it turns on auto-magically.

That's a LED Cinema Display (27-inch), model A1316.
You may need to connect BOTH the Mini DisplayPort cable (using a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort (female) adapter, or equivalent) AND the USB cable. Worth a shot, anyway.
I use this monitor with an M4 MacBook Pro via a Dell WD10 dock that uses a DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort adapter. I use another one with a Dell Latitude 7440 via a no-name el-cheapo KVM via the KVM's DisplayPort output.
You're right though, it just magically turns on and off.
What adapter are you using?
I believe the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter should work when connected to a Thunderbolt port on the back of the mini.
