Why does Primary Stream in AMS reset itself?

I use an M1 Mac Mini running Sonoma 14.7.2. I use Logic Pro 11.1.2. I do a lot of recording directly from my Fender Tone Master Pro using USB.

Recently I've had to deal with an issue where I get no input from the Tone Master Pro into Logic Pro, even tho the Tone Master Pro shows a strong USB output.

I also have a little Sonicake modeler that connects to Logic Pro via USB, and it works just fine. I thought the problem might be with my Tone Master Pro, so I picked up a 2nd unit. Nope - same issue with it. And while there was a chance that both units were defective, it seemed highly unlikely.

I found an article from Sweetwater that suggested the problem might be in Audio Midi Setup. Long story short, when I checked the Input settings, it showed the Primary slider turned all the way down. I turned it up and I had input again! Problem solved, right?

Well, not exactly. I have to check this setting every time I record, and it's turned down at least 50% of the time. Totally random. This started when I upgraded to Sonoma 11.1.2.

Has anybody else had to deal with this, and were you able to find a permanent solution? I couldn't anything when I Googled it.
