Kindle app on Mac no longer supported and can't access books

No longer able to read books with kindle app on Mac because it requires IOS 12 and I only have 11.7

Online chat with a 'kindle expert' said I'll need to buy a new Mac.

Is there a way around this without having to use external software?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.7

What year is your MacBook Pro? Also MacBook Pros don't use iOS, they run macOS. iOS is for iPhones and iPads.

If your MacBook Pro isn't a 2010 model or newer I'm afraid you can't upgrade your system to later than macOS 10.11.6.

What other apps are available to read Kindle books? That sounds like a better solution than having to get a new Mac. Especially if that's your primary use of the MBP. Have you considered an iPad?

Many of us can no longer use the Kindle app as 1) the latest version requires a new OS and 2) the old version - though it still launches - doesn't open more than a few books in our library; trying to open others brings up the error message about needing the newest Kindle.

The solution is to go to your Amazon account in a browser, then :

Manage Your Content and Devices

Digital Content

View:

Books

and all your Kindle library will be there to view, read, delete, whatever.
