Can files from a malware-infected Mac be safely transferred via flash drive?

Can files on old. 2014 Mac Air using Big Sur that's infected with malware be safely transferred by flash drive? Or will the files contain malware too?

Would not be better to Remove the Malware Before taking any chances ?

What makes the User ( you ) believe there is Malware on the computer ?

Details and context would help.

Adware and Malware can affect computers and are often downloaded from “shady” websites or developers who inject them into downloads.
