DAC doesn't appear as an option in Apple Music on Mac bookpro m4

My external USB DACs appear as output devices in the audio settings on my 2024 M4 MBP but Apple Music does not list them as output options to playback lossless hi-res music.

I have set up lossless playback in Apple Music( but I aim given a warning that an external device is required, even when one is connected and recognised by the Mac. running 15.3.1 (24D70).

Does anyone no why this is the case please?

The DACs work ok on my Mac intel devices and on my iOS devices.

Thank you

I think I have worked this one out.

Select the DAC as the Mac audio output using Sound settings

In Music select the audio output symbol and then hover over the name of the MacBook Pro in the list of audio outputs, it confirms the DAC is the output.

If you want to check the bit rate etc of the track, view the Apple Music mini-player and click of the "hi-res/lossless" text and you should see a pop-up with the bit-rate details.

You can then go to the Audio-Midi app in utilities and select the best out rate for the DAC to match the track.
