Is a camera lens protector necessary for iPhone 16 Pro Max's sapphire crystal lens?

I recently got an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I was wondering if I should get a camera lens protector. Is the sapphire crystal lens durable enough on its own, or is extra protection recommended?

Using a camera lens protector for your iPhone is a personal choice, and there are a variety of options available in the market. Some users prefer to add a layer of protection to safeguard the delicate lens from scratches, dust, or accidental damage, while others opt to keep the lens uncovered for the best possible photo and video quality.

It’s important to note that any cover placed over the camera lens can have potential drawbacks over time. For instance, lens protectors may attract moisture, leading to condensation or fogging, which can affect the clarity of your photos and videos. Additionally, the protector itself may become scratched, dirty, or cloudy, which could distort images and reduce overall camera performance.

Given these potential issues, some users—myself included—prefer a minimalist approach. Instead of using a lens protector, I use side guards or protective bumpers that prevent direct contact between the camera lens and hard surfaces when placing the iPhone down. This helps minimize the risk of scratches while avoiding any interference with the lens’s ability to capture clear and accurate images.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to balancing protection with performance and finding the solution that best fits your usage habits and priorities.

Hallo! As someone that hasn't paid off her iPhone 14 Pro yet but just dropped her phone and had the lens cover shatter, I am currently looking at buying the iPhone 16 Pro Max AND I will be getting a protective cover for the lens. I thought the glass cover over the lens was thick enough and that the bumpers on my iPhone protector would keep it from scratching and getting cracked. Nope and nope. I take a lot of photos and this is very traumatic for me. To get it repaired will cost between $500-$600 (pretty sure several new lens protection covers would cost less than that and you could just get another if needed), so I might as well just spring for the new one. Live and learn.
