I have operating system Catalina version 10.15.7. Bell Canada requested me to update Emanil setting to match their new requirements. Trying to update Email setting I get note that my browser must be updated. When I persuade with update browser I get a note "checking for update" that does not switch off (waiting for 12 hours) and software is nor being updated. Please give instruction what to do.

You don't state what year iMac you have but you need at least a mid 2014 iMac to upgrade from Catalina.
