How can I delete system hidden Microsoft folders from iCloud Drive?
I’ve been struggling with an issue related to Microsoft applications storing data in iCloud Drive. Specifically, I have discovered that Microsoft apps like Office, OneNote, and OneDrive are creating hidden folders within iCloud Drive, such as iCloud~com~microsoft~Office, iCloud~com~microsoft~onenote, and iCloud~com~microsoft~skydrive. These folders are not visible or accessible through the usual iCloud Drive interface on macOS, iOS, or even on the iCloud website. Despite being hidden, they continue to sync across my devices, preserving old credentials and data that I no longer need.
I have tried multiple methods to delete these folders, including using Terminal commands with elevated permissions. Although I can find the directories under ~/Library/Mobile Documents/, they reappear as soon as iCloud Drive is enabled again. This indicates that the source of the problem is on the iCloud Drive server-side and not merely a local caching issue.
I have also disabled iCloud Drive temporarily, which makes the folders disappear locally. However, they reappear the moment iCloud Drive is turned back on. This persistence suggests that the data is embedded within iCloud’s system storage for these applications. Moreover, I have tried accessing iCloud Drive through the web interface, but these folders are not listed there either, making manual deletion impossible.
I have already uninstalled all Microsoft applications and removed any residual files from my Mac, yet the hidden folders keep coming back, indicating that the problem resides in iCloud’s backend. I have also ensured that no other devices are contributing to this issue by disconnecting them one by one, but the problem persists.
I am seeking help from the community to understand if there is a way to access and manage these hidden folders directly from iCloud Drive. If anyone has experienced a similar issue or has insights on how to permanently remove these Microsoft folders from iCloud, I would appreciate your guidance. I am open to any suggestions or alternative methods to clear this data without affecting other iCloud services. Additionally, if someone knows of a reliable way to prevent Microsoft applications from creating these hidden folders in the future, that would be extremely helpful. Any advice on how to stop the continuous syncing and finally resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
