Green dot/“camera” being used despite never having opened camera

So I was on the Home Screen of my phone last night when I noticed the green camera dot at the top of my phone. I definitely did not click on the camera app at all before that, and the dot only lingered for a second or two. When I checked, the app said to have been used was “camera”.

The especially odd aspect is that when I looked in my settings at the “screen time” for my camera app, there was no usage during the time period the green dot appeared and the camera was said to be in use.

Perhaps something to note is that I am still on iOS 17.5.1 due to a lack of storage keeping me from updating my iOS, so should I be concerned that my phone is compromised? Or was this likely a glitch? Thanks!

When the green dot indicator shows up on your iPhone, swipe down from the top right for the Control Center and it will tell you where your camera is being accessed from. I would also advise you to update your iPhone to the latest iOS 18.3.1 as you are now very behind on bug fixes and more, which could be causing this. Try freeing up some storage, you will need at least 10 GB of storage to update.
