Scammer posing as Apple support via text

Received a text message from “Apple support” about charges to my Apple account. I called the given number and was instructed to download an app called “Helpdesk

host” and I didn’t of course and they hung up. The app developer is permitted to have that app available to assist in the scamming process. Why??

All you needed to do is delete the app and move on with your day. Any such message is just a scam. There is no reason to call a number from a message/email no matter what tactic they use to scare you. It is not a problem with the app that is in the App Store and there are legitimate uses for it. If that is the first time you have seen a scam message, be prepared for more, and delete every single one of them. Review the information provided here, where you can also report them, but there is no way to stop them completely.
