iMac with Ventura 13.7.4 boot and sleep issues within 3 months of purchase

2017 Imac running Ventura 13.7.4

Issue seems to be when it goes into sleep mode...it must randomly restart itself because when I wake it up next time, I get a message that it was restarted due to a problem. It also has issues sometimes booting up all the way. Apple logo and bar but it just stops part way and then nothing. Occasionally half the screen goes pink. I did diagnostic tool...came back nothing. I did First Aid on everything. I stopped login items...no change. So I downloaded Etrecheck and ran that. Attaching the report. I know nothing about this stuff. I just want to know if this is a simple fix or if I should just return the computer. Thanks for any insight!!

A Vintage iMac from 2017 in 2025 “ within 3 months of purchase  " ?

The previous owner may have been aware,  there was a Hardware Issue at the time they sold this computer.

It appears from the supplied report, that either the 28 GB SSD drive or the 1.00 TB Mechanical / Rotational drive maybe failing

The options for you,  as the New Owner are ;

1 - Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

Make an Appointment at the Apple Genius Bar or call 1 800 MyApple and have them evaluate the computer

Other location Call Centres

Contact Apple for support and service

2 - Contact the Original Owner and ask to return the computer for a full refund

3 - Purchase a good SSD Drive and a Matching Enclosure  from www.owc.com  Install the operating system * Ventura “ to that drive. Make the External Drive your Startup drive and run Ventura from that drive

Vintage hardware - This computer may be considered vintage.

Kernel panics - This system has experienced kernel panics. This could be a sign of hardware failure.

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017)

 Status: Vintage

disk0 - APPLE SSD SM0032L 28.00 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

If anyone eventually updates and doesnt have problems, please let us know. I haven't touched the update because I know there are problems. My machine is only just about working properly after the previous update and I really dare not do this one. I also have a PC and due to the updates that have been put out by Mac, I tend to use the PC for most of the time now. Don't know who is supposed to check this stuff works properly, but at the moment, its just sitting on the back burner and I guarantee I won't be updating any time soon.

You are very welcome

More importantly is the previous Owner " Stepped Up " and did the right thing

An aside to all this of you allow me.

Having upgraded 1 machine from macOS 11 to macOS 12 to macOS 13 to macOS 14 and finally to macOS 15 - No issues

Upgraded 1 machine from macOS 13 ro 14 and to 15 - Not Issues

UpGraded yet another machine from macOS 14 to 15 - no issues

The latest M4 Mac Mini from Sequoia 15.0 to every additional update and sitting a Sequoia 15.3.1

The only real problem I have is which machine to use at any given time

I really do not understand why some people have issues.

Guess I am just " Lucky "

I think not
