Recovering Password to my 2020 iMac

I updated my 2020 iMac to the latest Sonoma update. The computer had been in storage for 1.5 years. It did update, then it requested my password. I put in the old password that I had a record of, and it would not take it. Is there a way to update to a new password in order to log on to my computer?
