Android users getting kicked out of group messages

The following issue may be related to an update to iOS 18 when RCS texting was added to my phone. It removes one of the users (always an Android user) in a group message and then I don't have the ability to respond in that message. It removes the bar where you type your message. Then, it will randomly add that person back into the group chat until it decides to remove them again. The message says they have removed themselves, but on another phone in the group it says I have done the removing. It takes away all of the history of the thread- conversations, links and even photos. Huge pain. I've tried restarting the group anew, and I have disabled and re-enabled the RCS messaging toggle and still have the same thing. This has happened with 2 different text groups now. I can text the person individually and they receive my messages and can respond to me. Is anyone else having this issue and what did you find fixed it? There was a similar question posed last year, but responses had closed and I'm wondering if anyone has found new answers. If you have this problem too, report to Apple so they hear from a lot of us. Interesting. I had group messages that were working fine before iOS 18, then when RCS came in ios18, those group chats stopped working: the Android users messages weren't arriving on my iphone if I had RCS disabled. The second thing that broke in ios18 was 1-to-1 RCS chats with a single Android user. My RCS status would flip from RCS to SMS and back to RCS after each message was sent. I had to reset network settings to get my RCS working properly again. Maybe try that?

But you're right for linking the feedback form, we absolutely need to send Apple this feedback so they can properly integrate RCS into ios and the Messages app. Also:

  • to allow Messages to be updated independently through the app store.
  • to allow us to not add every picture taken through Messages to be added to the camera roll automatically.
