1Phone 12 suddenly says Iphone not available-

I was on a walk using airbuds listening to a PODcast, when sound stopped. I took out the iphone 12 mini (up to date software) and it said iphone unavailable Try again in one minute. I've done this walk many times without this happening. The phone went to screen lock, I tried the screen passcode and it didn't unlock . I tried again and same thing. I turned the phone off for about 3 minutes and turned it back on. Same thing- iphone is inavailable - try again in 1 minute, then to lock screen, pass codes doesn't work. I repeated this several times over the next 10-15 minutes until I got home. Same problem. I checked my wife's iphone, and it was working fine. I tried to call Ap

ple support from her phone but didn't have the number. Then about 5 min later, it started working. What is going on? Currently on w Apple Support.

You apparently carried the phone in a pocket against your body, and the contact with your body entered random passcodes.

If you routinely carry your phone in your pocket (not a good idea for a ~$1,000 piece of delicate electronics unless it is in a protective case) you need to do 2 things:

(1)Go to Settings/FaceID & Passcode and turn off Raise to Wake.

(2)Put the phone in your pocket with the BACK against your body so skin contact doesn’t activate it. This may seem counterintuitive, but it is more important to protect the back than the front; a screen can be easily and quickly replaced, but if the back glass breaks it is a major repair to fix it, and in some models the whole phone needs to be replaced.

But the BEST answer is to put your phone in a high quality case.
