Stuck at -405 seconds remaining during macOS Sierra reinstallation on erased Mac mini

Wanted to pass on an older. Mac Mini running Mac OS Sierra. Successfully erased Hard Drive and then started reinstalling Mac OS Sierra. Seemed to be going well, but I have even at “-405 seconds remains” for sometime.

With an older Mini, it could be a failing hard drive.

You can try to look at the installation log to see where it is getting stuck at, but it is not always easy to understand those logs. If you do inspect the installation log, then start at the end & work forward. Somewhere you will hopefully see a difference in the logs where the problem began.

You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. Unfortunately the diagnostics rarely detect hardware issues even when they have been confirmed through other means.
