how do I remove the mute icon next to a text message?

on a random basis occasionally, a mute symbol will appear next to my wife’s text. Message to me and the alert does not sound. We can’t figure out if it’s something to do with her phone or mine and neither of us seems to have done anything to cause it.

iPhone 15 Plus, iOS 18

On your phone, swipe left on the conversations with your wife and tap the bell icon. You may have accidentally Muted the conversation where you will no longer receive the notification and the bell will appear next to her name in the message list. When you swipe left on the conversation if the bell has a slash through it, it means that if you tap on it, it will mute the conversation. If it does not have a slash through it, tapping on it will unmute it.
