Installing MacOS on older A1534 12" Retina MacBook

I have an older 12" MacBook that I recently cleaned off and accidentally removed the OS.

I have been trying to reinstall following all the directions but it keeps giving me an error.

A local repair shop said an Apple store will reinstall the OS for me if they still support this model (A1534), but I don't know if they do. Does anyone know, it's a bit of a drive to the closest store.

Thanks!

As indicated, that model number matches three 12" Retina MacBooks.

  • The Early 2015 one originally shipped with Yosemite. You can upgrade it to Big Sur, and no further.
  • The Early 2016 one originally shipped with El Capitan. You can upgrade it to Monterey, and no further.
  • The 2017 one originally shipped with Sierra. You can upgrade it to Ventura, and no further.
