How do I name/rename Files in preview without any issues?

Whenever I do a screenshot and it opens in the Preview App I used to be able to just name the file by clicking on the title bar where the name is currently Untitled and type in a new name and click out of the box. Now I type a new name in and it disappears half the time and reverts to what it was like Untitled. It does the same thing if I try to rename a previously saved image or change the location. It just often reverts back to the old name/location. If I press enter after typing the new name/location it seems to stick more often but still fails a lot. It started after the last big update.

I have the same problem and it was only after this last update or two ago. I take a screenshot and it has the name "Screenshot ..." with the date and time. When I open it to make sure I know what it is I'm renaming, I can't change the name on the bar. The caps lock symbol on the space where you enter the file name keeps blinking and won't let me change the name. Other times previously when it wasn't working, it would let me change the name and the new name would not take.

I usually take lots of screenshots at a time because of timing and I need to go back and rename them. How am I supposed to know what to call a screenshot for proper filing if I can't see the screenshot itself????

Apple needs a fix for this. Never had any problems prior to the last couple of updates.

The same thing is happening to me after the last big update. I am constantly downloading pdf faxes and needing to rename and put them in different folders. The only work around I have found is to print, pdf, export, then I can rename and sort. The name at the top doesn't change until you go to the folder to open it again. Lots of extra clicks.

Has anyone gotten any real feedback without a work around?

Same here. I think this is an issue with the Preview app. Week old M4 Airbook running Sequoia 15.3.2.

I have set my screenshots to automatically open in Preview so I can immediately name them and choose their location. I can't make heads or tails of it. Pressing 'Return' never works, but once in a while pressing 'Tab't or clicking into the next field manually will work. Most of the time, like right now testing it, there is nothing I can do to save the Screenshot/Preview file with the name or location I want. It just reverts back to Untitled and saves the file in the Preview folder in iCloud.

I have to then go to the Preview folder in iCloud and name the file from there. This now creates a copy which I do not want and one file, in Preview/iCloud, with the correct name. I have to delete the copy and then drag the correctly named file to the location I have been asking it to be moved to, which in my case is the Desktop.

More annoyingly, the next screen shot I take has the location 'Desktop' selected and I can't name the file or change the location just like before. So it's remembering the last location I asked for, not sending it there, but selecting that location for the next screenshot.

On top of this, if I have Caps Lock on the blue 'caps lock' arrow symbol in whatever field I'm in starts flashing rapidly, as though something is wrong, like a glitch. Extremely annoying.

CRAZY annoying actually, particularly after spending 2k on a new laptop days ago. Apple bums me out on the regular these days. This is just too basic of a function to not work properly out of the box.

And now this misbehaviour. Sorry for the double post, nothing is working correctly today!:

Same here. Week old M4 Airbook running Sequoia 15.3.2. For me the only thing that works it pressing tab or clicking into the next field manually. 'Return/Enter' will move the file to the location I specified but does not save the name. Reverts back to Untitled.
