Just tried installing 18.3 update on my iPad via Apple Devices app on my PC. iPad screen froze about 1/4 along Apple logo. When I switch iPad off and on it always returns to Apple Devices app where only options are update or restore. Both fail with error 1109 and end with Apple logo and frozen status bar so I am in a vicious circle and cannot restart iPad. Is there any way out of this?

Seems your iPad may not have had enough storage space free for the iPadOS update, or the wi-fi signal was not powerful enough, etc.:

Error 1109 is typically cause by issues connecting to Apple's update servers. Apple has a specific advice for Error 1109:

Many thanks for your reply. Storage space was short which was why I tried to use Apple Devices on PC to upgrade and Apple Support articles simply result in the same "there is a problem" vicious circle screen. Time for the rubbish dump it seems!

Despite all your helpful notes and some conversations with Apple Support no solution has emerged so, as the iPad is a few years old and the only option offered was travelling quite a distance to an Apple centre for a possible further check, I think it's time to bite the bullet and upgrade to a new model!

My iPad Pro 10.9 installed 18.3 update and overnight screen went black. Tried all suggestions with final one being a few minutes in the freezer. Once up, I upgraded to 18.3.1 to see if it would fix it and it did not. Then had to put in freezer to get display showing ran a full reset. Still same issue. After getting screen back I did a full removal from iCloud and put back to new condition. Hoping once another OS is released it will work again. I had 256 with less than 128 used so had plenty of space to upgrade.
