Battery drain issue on my MacBook Pro 2020

Hi,

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro, and lately, my battery has been draining quite fast. I scheduled an appointment at Apple, and the technician told me that my battery is essentially fried. He mentioned that MacBook Pro batteries typically last around four years and that replacing it would require changing the entire cover (keyboard & trackpad), bringing the total cost to over $400 CAD.

However, my Mac’s battery health still shows as “Normal,” and I have 861 charge cycles over five years. I usually charge it when it drops below 20% and unplug it once it’s close to 100%.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

If I were to change the battery, do I really to change the top cover (my keyboard and trackpad are in brand new condition)?

Thanks.

Batteries wear out yes.

861 charge cycles is bearing down on the theoretical 1000 expected...

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.

Loaded IOS Sequoia 15.3 3 days ago and thats when the battery issue started. Apple Genius said it has nothing to do with the battery but the computer has other glitches since then. Anyone else had similar issues?
