Logic crashes everytime I switch which track is armed to record

So let's say I have two guitar tracks. Each on input 1. I arm track 1 and record the guitar part.

Now I want to switch to track 2 and record a second guitar part. I arm the track, but when I hit record or even just play, I get the wheel of death. I have to force quit, reopen and then arm track 2 first.

This doesn't always happen. Usually if I only have 2 tracks and not much recorded yet, it will do fine for a little bit. But eventually it will start doing it consistently.

I don't believe it's an issue with computer power. I can run a session with over 100 tracks full of plug ins and it doesn't bat an eye. This will start happening even in relatively small session with less than 20 tracks.

I would drop your buffer size to 256 or 512. Also, create a new session just in case the existing session is corrupt.

You can import the data from old session like this.

Link: Import data and settings from other Logic Pro for Mac projects - Apple Support

To import an old Logic Pro session into a new one, open the new session, then go to File > Import > Logic Projects; navigate to the old project file in the "All Files" browser, and select the tracks or data you want to import, then click "Add" to incorporate them into your current project.

Key points about importing sessions in Logic Pro:

  • Access the browser:
  • The "All Files" browser lets you view all tracks and data within the old project to selectively import what you need.
  • Choose import options:
  • You can choose to "Add" new tracks from the old project below your current ones, or "Replace" existing tracks with the imported data.
  • Track selection:
  • Tick the boxes next to the tracks you want to import, including any associated plugins, sends, and automation.

Hope that helps,
