Microsoft Word on IPad no changing highlight color

Please advise on when I go to highlight a word or sentence in Microsoft Word on IPad, the highlight chosen does not change to a color. It only highlights in blue no matter what you do. Please advise. I am currently running 18.3 on my iPad.
