iPhone 13 Pro camera started failing and shows "not a genuine Apple part".

I recently noticed my back camera was freezing and crashing and when it would work, was missing a zoom option and other features. Then I found in the settings the alert stating "Unknown Part - Unable to determine if your iPhone camera is a genuine Apple part." Mind you, I have NEVER had the camera replaced to my knowledge. The ONLY service I have had done on this phone was a screen replacement and it was done at an Apple Certified Service Center (Best Buy) and they had to send it in so I assume it was sent to Apple.

I contacted support online and they did some remote diagnostics and confirmed it was a camera failure of some kind, so they set me up with an appointment to take it in to a service center. I took it to my nearest Best Buy as advised and the tech there also took it back and ran diagnostics and was coming up with the same generic message and asked me the same questions already asked. In the end, he said the system would not let him submit it for a repair because of it being a non-Apple part.

How is this even possible?! This is terrible support for a device of this cost, or any cost, for that matter. It should not matter how the device failed, it should be able to be repaired if the customer is willing to pay for the repairs. Now my only option is to go buy a new phone?! When the issue was the original manufacturer's part failed and now they won't even repair it?! After reading on the support community, I see this has been somewhat common with this model.

He's got to do better than that, since the "Unknown Part - Unable to determine if your iPhone camera is a genuine Apple part" message can appear if there is a hardware problem with the camera.

The same message appeared on my phone except it was about the battery.....which I knew was genuine since I was the original owner of the phone.

When I took the phone to a local authorized Apple service shop, they opened up the phone to verify that the battery was "genuine" and advised that I should replace the battery. The message was gone after a new battery was installed.

The "tech".....if he / she really was a "tech"....would have opened up the phone to verify that the correct part was indeed present in the phone.

Use the link below to see if you can locate another independent Apple service shop in your area and take the phone to them. This way, you will be dealing directly with the approved shop.

I was thinking about taking it somewhere else for another look but wasn't sure if anyone else has had the same experience. I had good luck with using Best Buy for the screen replacement repair but that was a more "cut and dry" situation - the screen was obviously busted lol.

All of the authorized locations around my area are Best Buy stores unfortunately. It looks like I am going to have to travel at least 70 miles to get a different choice, a Micro Center or an Apple store.
