I woke up this morning and went to my contacts to find a phone number and all of my contacts except for 3 are gone. I don’t understand how this happened. And when I go to my text messages they are all there but contact names are missing.

How are you managing contacts? Contacts are generally synced to an email account. Have you recently signed out or cancelled an email account? Did you leave an employer where you had an Exchanged account. Check your mail accounts to see if you have Contacts turned on in any of them. Then check your Contacts app in the upper left corner to see what accounts are there. You may see the word Lists there, tap on it and it will take you to a page to show what contacts you have there. Like mine, I have them in iCloud and it tells me the number of contacts I have there.

I had the same problem after updating to Sequoia 15.3. Various other pages have instructions that involve deleting various files in ~/Library, but none of those worked for me. What did work was the following:
The contacts were still there afterwards, and still are there now.
