Why am I getting iphone notifications for "My Home"?

Around 1am I started getting notifications for My Home saying "A home hub is now responding."

Having absolutely no ideas what that meant, I clicked on the notification. It sent me to the app store and downloaded an app called Home. I clicked on the app and after opening, nothing happened.

  1. How is it possible an app I don't have installed is sending me notifications?
  2. Why am I getting these notifications?
  3. What does "A home hub is now responding" mean?
  4. How do I stop these notifications? If I don't have an app installed it's not listed under notifications, so I can't shut them off.

Apple...(sigh)

It is weird why the notifications are popping up. I think iOS is showing that its coming from home even though its uninstalled which means that home is a part of the iOS version that you have installed. Change notification settings on iPhone - Apple Support (CA) Now that you do have the app installed go ahead and turn off all notifications.

Hope that helps.

Apple Home is part of ios. You don’t have a rogue app sending you notifications.

You are getting those notifications because you have configured devices linked to Apple Home.

A home hub is now responding means exactly what it says. A home hub, which may be an Apple TV, HomePod, etc. is now responding on the network.

If you didn’t set this up, chances are you are sharing an Apple account with someone who HAS set up devices in Apple Home.

Stop sharing an account. Each person needs their own.

Hello, I have an Apple TV which I set up 5 years ago. I'm not sharing any accounts.

What would cause the Apple TV to all of a sudden, all on its own, start "responding" on the network after 5 years? What does "responding" mean in this context?

Lastly, while My Home may be part of iOS, it was 100% absolutely not installed on my device when this notification was sent. As far as I'm aware, this is the first time Apple has force sent notifications for uninstalled apps so I think it's understandable why people are confused.

That's great! How many years do I need to be in IT before you'll believe me that I know if an app is installed on my phone or not? 25 years? 30 years? The full 35 years?

As I said, I got the notification and it took me to the app store. I then pressed the blue/white "Get" button and download the app. I am not confused about this fact. I have no reason to lie about this. The app was not there.

Let's pretend the app was previously there as you said, and I removed it. In that case, why am I getting notifications for it? Is it normal iOS functionality to send notifications for apps which aren't installed?

If you are unwilling or unable to solve the problem, or if you simply don't believe me, that's fine. But let's go our separate ways and leave space for people who are interested in exploring the problem please.
