Tracks purchased on Bandcamp show up as 'Downloaded' on Music

I've only recently understood how my other devices are affected by what I upload to my personal Macbook. I decided not to sync my personal device, other than to restore purchased items, in Music because of some iCloud issue I'm not so certain about.

If I have to replace my current device, I'm worried about losing these 'Downloaded' tracks because they were not purchased through Apple Music. This seems unfair, because I purchased those tracks for the same price as a CD of the album in question, so they shouldn't be stigmatized as 'Downloads'. Plus I don't want Music to get snarky, should I choose to include some tracks on a playlist and then burn that playlist to CD, and I'm kind of worried that's what will happen.

There is no need to subscribe to the Apple Music service if you don't want to. Should you wish to, you can create a separate library and choose which devices and libraries sync with the cloud.

When burning a playlist to CD make sure the content is stored locally, doesn't contain DRM, and the total playing time of the list doesn't exceed the capacity of the disc.

In this context downloaded means there is a copy of the file stored on the computer, as opposed to content that is in the cloud and would be streamed if you asked it to play. It used to be the other way around, with cloud content getting a little cloud symbol as a hint it was in the cloud, while anything downloaded got no icon.

When you are signed into your Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) on any computer or device then Music will show all of your unhidden past purchases automatically, whether downloaded or in the cloud. If you have an iCloud Music Library as part of a subscription to Apple Music or iTunes Match, and enable Sync Library, this is extended so that you have access to your entire iCloud Music Library on demand. New items you add to your computer from CD (ripped) or other sources will be added (matched or uploaded) to your cloud library so they become available to your other devices.

When burning a CD you must use locally stored files (downloaded, not streamed) and they cannot be subscription content from the Apple Music service.

If and when you terminate an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription you lose access to any content in the cloud, and any items that came from the Apple Music catalog as opposed to your purchases, matched, or uploaded items.

Now I'm realizing that even CDs that I've burned into Music have this symbol of an arrow in a circle. And they say that they are all 'Downloaded', though they were burned from a CD. Maybe this is some lame thing associated with the Sequoia update. Me no likey!

And why is everything on my Desktop automatically uploaded to iCloud? Can't I just keep my personal Desktop with me?

Thank you! That's very helpful, knowing the distinction for what 'Downloaded' means in this particular case.

I tried to burn a playlist that had files from my personal storage as well as stuff from Apple Music, and I was told I *could* burn such a disc, but I would have to sync my library, which covers 3 or 4 or 5 computers/devices over a 10+ year period. That's thousands of tracks I really don't need, including duplicates. I guess I could deauthorize those computers, but that goes against my nature.
