A few months ago, I was able to translate and copy text in Books by selecting the text. Those options no longer appear. Now, there’s just “highlight”, “look up”, “search”, and “writing tools”. Is there a way to get those functions back?

Have you tapped at the ends of the popup to make sure there are not more options?
Do you see this problem in every book, or just some of them?
What languages are you translating?
I have seen similar things happen in a individul chapters of some books, but never a whole one. If you find entire books where this does not work, consider applying for a refund from Apple.

I first encountered this problem in the middle of reading a book in French. I had been using the translate option occasionally to translate some sentences to English, but then the translate option disappeared. I just bought a book in Spanish and am having the same problem.
Weirdly, some books in English are showing the full options menu in the popup as before and when I click on translate, it translates to Spanish. In both general settings on the iPad and in the Books app, the default language is set to English. Other books in English are just showing the limited menu (without the translate option). This is very strange.
