Missing Mic mode option using Logic Pro on my 2019 iMac

No, I still don’t have the option and it would be nice if Apple would fix or at least let me know if Logic automatically sets the mic mode as standard. I’ve just been recording into and SM7B not knowing if I am getting the most clear sound and working with what I have.

I am on an iMac. Logic does have access to the microphone in the privacy settings and it is recognized in Logic. That is not the issue. The issue is that everywhere I’ve looked it says that we should have the option to change the mic mode to standard. I do not have that option. It never shows as explained by Apple, where I can click the mic in Control Center and change the mic mode. Nor have I seen that Logic will automatically set the mic mode to standard. So since we don’t know that answer or have the option to set it, then the question is: are we getting a clear feed from the mic if we are oblivious to what the mic mode is set to?

The mic is going into an interface (Audient id14) then that into the iMac via USB-C. Both my Mac and Logic preferences have the id14 as input and work properly. I did run the mic into a Focusrite Scarlett as well and still don’t have the option to change (or don’t even see) the mic mode.

Hmm, you could be right about that. I didn’t search if Intel based Mac’s feature mic mode. I can run multiple tracks usually with no problems. It sometimes overloads and stops playing when I have too many apps like Photoshop open. I am leaning on getting a new iMac, but waiting a bit. I would know then if there’s a difference.

Honestly I wouldn’t know if I have a problem or not. That’s the issue. Me not having access to mic mode means I have no clue if I am getting “standard” sound from my mic without any filters. Sound coming into logic is good, but is it affected by mic mode or not? From what I’ve read, my computer should have mic mode. But I will try what you’ve suggested tonight.

Thanks! Overall it’s been fun making music in Logic and the computer is almost always capable of handling what I’m doing. It was just that one concern of am I getting the clearest sound from the mic. Even though I’m unsure, I’m still happy with what I’m making. You have fun too!

Just a quick update on this issue. I got a new iMac with M4 chip and running Sequoia 15.3.1 and when I run Logic it shows an orange square with mic on it and when I click it will give me the option to switch the mic mode between Standard and Voice Isolations. It works on this computer and the mic sounds good. I am not sure why my old Mac wasn't giving me the mic mode option.

Unfortunately I don’t have another Mac at the moment. I am considering upgrading soon since this one has a hard time keeping up. I’ll check back in when I can get that set up.
