Purgeable Space on Scan Disk External SSD

I have a Scan Disk 4T external drive for images and video only. I believe the drive is fragmented so I took everything off the drive reformatted it and put the data I wanted back on the drive. Now it is says 90% full but It is really 40 gigs of purgeable data. How do I recall the purgeable space?

What is purgeable disk space? Leave the drive attached, macOS will determine when to clear the purgeable space and only when needed.

Fragmentation is only a problem with HDD spinning disks. SSDs do not suffer from fragmentation.
