Significance of link symbol near comments

To improve my understanding of the phenomenon, it would be highly beneficial if you could share a full screenshot (Do not crop it). Visual representations carry a greater impact than written descriptions.

It lets you convert a URL to plain text. More technically, it is a shortcut that invokes the HREF function in HTML. Example: If I paste the link to the US Trademark & Patent site

it is not clear what the site is for. If I type a more user-friendly description, let's say:

Trademark information

I can then use the Link icon to convert that text to a clickable link.

Highlight the plain text phrase first, then click the link icon; it opens to this:

Now you paste the URL to replace the highlighted text in the second text box:

Hitting "Save" creates the plain-text link in your post:

It looks somewhat different on an iPhone but the function is basically the same.

NOTE: Also, if the forum software has not gone off its meds, links to most Apple pages and articles do that plain text conversion automatically when pasted.
