Poor camera quality on MacBook Air M2 13-inch 2022

I recently bought a MacBook Air M2 13-inch 2022. The first thing I noticed when using the built-in camera on FaceTime and Photo Booth was that the camera quality was much poorer than I had expected. It looks as if I have a filter on that makes my skin look unnaturally smooth and blurry. I have checked and I do not have any filters on. The color tone also looks more orange compared to my old MacBook Air’s camera. Is there any way to fix these things or is it necessary to buy an external camera if I want decent camera quality for video calls?

I have an old MacBook Air 13-inch mid-2012 and it has a better built-in camera than my new MacBook Air M2 has. I am not satisfied with my new purchase.

There are some suggestions here: Use the camera on Mac - Apple Support – mainly along the lines of adjusting lighting, or adjusting settings in apps that have such settings.

If you have an iPhone, you might be able to use it as an alternative to the M2 MacBook Air's built-in camera.
