Unresponsive default floating keyboard on iPad

The keyboard is defaulting to floating size. Spreading two fingers apart does not work to make the keyboard full size.

I’ve been reading replies going back to 2023. This is an ongoing problem, and all the answers are the same. You don’t know how to fix it other than rebooting the iPad. This isn’t practical. Please don’t suggest that or spreading my fingers apart. If you have no new info, then no response, please. I don’t have time to read redundancies going back a couple of years. Instead, get a tech team on this. There’s an idea worth considering, Apple.

First, perhaps understand the Apple Support Community is a user-to-user technical forum. Contributors here are all end-users, just like you - offering help and expertise where they are able to do so. Other than the site Moderators, Apple neither monitor nor participate here. As such, if you hope to reach Apple through these forums, you will be disappointed.

Have you enabled the Scribble feature? This feature uses a different mini-keyboard that does not respond to the two-finger zoom or pinch gestures.

Settings > Apple Pencil > Scribble - set to OFF
