Can't burn music on verbatim blank cd

Been burning cd's for many years, today I went to burn one and it would not work. It said the following: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error". I tried again and it did the same thing. Any idea what that means or what I can do to get things burning again.
