Did Logic Pro somehow switch out the source file?

Hi – spent hours editing my podcast in Logic Pro 11.1.2 last night, saved the project and turned off the computer. Today, on re-opening the project, all the edits and fades in the timeline are correct but the sound is source material from an earlier episode. I am fairly new to Logic Pro and have never experienced this error before. It seems strange that a project can "pick up" source material from somewhere else, especially since the edits and fades in the timeline are correct.

I would appreciate any ideas on what could have gone wrong and if there is a way to maybe switch back to the "right" source material within the project?

Thank you in advance,

/Erik

Erik,

Open the project and this dialogue window will pop up. Replace audio by clicking on "Locate" (allows you to search manually) or "Search" (which will search automatically for you). I would try and find the exact audio file to rectify the problem but you can sometimes get lucky (especially if your Track naming configuration is on point).

If you wish to understand the "why" behind it....This video explains it in detail:

Since there is not much information, I have to make a lot of assumptions.

It seems that you have re-used a project without properly renaming the project and removing the old audio files.

- You can re-use a project, but you need to rename the project(s) properly.

- You can even save this project as a template to ensure that you do not automatically use the same name. (highly recommended)

However, in both cases you must clear the project's audio window of all leftovers. Make sure you don't delete the files from your hard drive but only from the project.

Thank you for helping me. This is good to know. I had, in fact, made a template out of an old show to keep settings, saved the new project under a new name, erased the audio from the "speaking" tracks but I kept the tracks used for jingles and sound effects. But you're saying I have to erase those too (all leftovers)?

Being at where I am now, is there a way to replace the "wrong" audio with the right and keep the timeline edits (which, again, are correct)? Or do I just have to start over?

Thanks again, really appreciate you taking the time.

Cheers,

Erik
