how to edit an existing template to make a new one ?

I would like to make my Note Taking Template on Pages appear on a black background but it won’t let me select the advanced option ? i don’t know what to do at this point

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.2

You open a new blank document using your existing template. Click Document > Section > Background and change the color to Black. Then, File menu > Save as Template… > Add to Template Chooser and give the updated template a different name.
