Would iPad 10th Gen Be Able to Have External Display with “lid-closed feature”

M series MacBook Air’s support up to two displays with the lid closed. What is stopping Apple from adding a “lid closed” feature for iPad that would allow it to run an external display while turning off the main display? Since the limitation with iPad 10 having an external display is hardware limitations, wouldn’t turning off the display allow it to have an (full) external display? Instead of the mirrored option we have now, with the 3:4 aspect ratio.

Contributors here are all end-users, just like you. Other than information published by Apple, nobody here has any insight into Apple’s product design decisions or future software development roadmap.

Many recent models of iPad, including models with an M-series CPU, support two displays - the internal display plus an external display. With iPadOS Stage Manager feature enabled, the iPad uses the external display to provide an extended desktop.

As such, much of the functionality you request already exists - but not for the entry-level iPad 10.
