iPadOS 18 Update separates screenshots from main photo library on iPad

Is there a way to return my screenshots to the main body of photos, where they were held pre-update 18? A good and patient Apple Advisor spent an hour with me yesterday but we failed to achieve this. Tapping on an individual screenshot and selecting “Show in All Photos” unfortunately doesn’t work: it simply fails to arrive in the photo Library. This irretrievable separation of screenshots from the main body of photos is a serious flaw in the update engineering.

We have no idea why Apple does what it does, and Apple developers don't read these users discussions. You an make suggestions directly to Apple here:

I got here late, but I'm not sure I understand the screenshot thing. This is my Library view:

All the circled pictures are screenshots that are mixed in with iPhone pictures and pictures imported from my Nikon. (I do a number of screenshots for stuff here.)

Also, in Media Types and in Pinned Collections, there's a special section for Screenshots:

I can't think of anything I've done that's different.

My guess is that the Headings depend on region. I'm in the US, and my main screen looks like this:

with the heading "Photos," the newest pictures in the middle, and "Recent Days" below that. The top part of this screen is the Library, so going up I get

a screen with "Library." léonie's screen may say "All Photos," (in German) though I'm not sure.

Clicking on "Recent Days" in the Photos view, or clicking on "Days" in the sidebar gets

this "curated and tiled "Days" view."

Tapping on a day gets this

with Summary or All, that léonie referred to.

The Summary menu appears in other "curated" views, like Trips, or People, etc. "Curated," here, means it has whatever Apple's AI wants in there.

I don’t have “All photos”, only “Photos”. Down the bottom of the screen I have Years, Months and All. And there’s nowhere to select “Summary” or “All”. The Apple Advisor sharing my screen recently tried absolutely everything and also couldn’t reunite my screenshots with my photos. It’s very disappointing and inconvenient, and I wish there was a way.

Thanks Richard, for setting all this out. I found the “Summary” / “All” choice and selecting All doesn’t help. There seems positively no way to reunite my screenshots with the main body of photos / “Library”. This situation seems to show an unnecessary bungle by Apple. My next question can easily be anticipated: When will users be able to install security updates separately from “improvement” updates? We all need the security updates but because iPad has already reached its optimum stage - it’s already perfect - any further “improvements” will only render it imperfect With these hours wasted I’ll be extremely reluctant in future to press “Update now”. Security and “improvement” updates simply have to be separate. Surely Apple engineers are bright enough to achieve this.
