IPhone & Amazon Music

This question is about Amazon Music somehow having to be linked to ITunes. Now I did not grow up in the tech world, I am 62. In past years I could play my Amazon Library Music Lists I created on my iphone on my Echo device so easily. Recently I was instructed by Amazon to download Itunes which I did although I have zero music on Itunes. Somehow it worked. Today, and I have listened on my echo several times since downloading itunes, I cannot as much as stream my music from my iphone 8 Plus to my echo. Amazon keeps advising I go to itunes settings however, all I get there are songs to purchase. There are no settings at least not on the itunes app on my phone. No updates are necessary, I am on top of that.

Does anyone haxe any suggestions? I apologize for the lengthy msg.

Apple provides two standard music-related apps on the iPhone.

  • The Music app lets you play purchased music and/or music from an Apple Music streaming subscription.
  • The iTunes Store app lets you buy online from Apple and download it to your phone.

You can play non-DRMed music purchased in other ways (on CD, from the Amazon MP3 store, etc.) on an iPhone – but if you're not using Sync Library (which requires a paid iTunes Match or Apple Music subscription), you'll need to "manually" synchronize it from a Mac or PC.

Amazon Music subscription music has DRM on it, and I believe that to listen to it on an iPhone, you will need to install the Amazon Music app, or log into the Amazon Web interface using a browser (like Safari). I assume that using the Amazon Music app would be much more convenient.

Amazon – Amazon Music App

If you have something like an Echo Show device, and you have an Apple Music subscription, I believe that there may be a way to set up your Amazon device so that it plays music using your Apple Music subscription. (You would then have access many songs on the Echo without having to pay for an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription that largely duplicated the coverage of the Apple Music one.)

I'm not sure how things work as far as

  • Using Apple Music playlists on Echo devices (when you have a linked Apple Music subscription), or
  • Using Amazon Music playlists from one Amazon device or app on another Amazon device or app.

That might be a question for Amazon Support.
