How do I turn off the filmstrip preview in Photos on iPhone 15?

I have an iPhone 15 running iOS 18.2.1. When using Apple Photos there is now a "filmstrip" of very tiny photo thumbnails that covers the bottom of each picture. How can I turn off this feature?!

Are you saying the picture looks like this:


and you like it like this?

I just tapped on the picture to get out of preview mode. By the way, the strip of recent pictures has always been in the preview mode.

Interesting. I have used Apple Photos on my iPhone for the past 12+ years and today is the very first time I ever saw the "filmstrip" hiding the bottom of the picture :-) I did recently upgrade from an XR to a 15 - could that be why I didn't see the filmstrip?


Ok, so from now on I need to move in and out of preview to fully view my photos.
