I tried to factory reset my late iMac27inch 2013 so I could give it to my grandson. I followed the Command R instructions but now only have a no entry sign on the screen and I can’t get in. I have tried Control Alt Shift R and that does not work. I think the problem is the HD is dismounted but not sure.
Any help would be appreciated.

It may be too early to tell, but there is a possibility that iMac's system drive is faulty or failing.
However, I suggest you take a look at the following Mac troubleshooting user tip to see if it can help:
If you are using a wireless keyboard, it sounds like it is no longer paired with the iMac to invoke the startup commands.
If you have a rechargeable Magic keyboard, plug it into to the iMac using the charging cable.
If not, then you will need to dig out, borrow or buy an inexpensive USB keyboard.
Also beware that the erase and install instructions for the older Intel Mac's is different than the Silicon based Mac's.

I read your advice.
I pressed “D” and got into the diagnostics.
It showed “No issues found” ADP000
It then connected to the internet showed a couple of the progress bars and then stopped.
Late 2013 is in a loop after trying factory reset
