Sticky keys + trackpad click

hi, I am paralysed and I use sticky keys a lot. It works fine when using keyboard to enter capital letters, shortcuts, etc. But I cannot use in combination with trackpad click, eg cmd+click to open new tab in browser or to select multiple files in Finder. I have to double press the key to "lock" it, then click and then press the key to unlock it again. I'm sure it worked before without locking, just single cmd press, then click on a link would open new tab and release the cmd again. Not sure, when it stopped working, maybe after some macOs update, maybe when I changed my old Intel MacBook for a new with Apple Silicon (M1 Pro 16"), but I'm sure it worked before and now it does not. Maybe it is expected behavior but before it was certainly more useful for me.

Any ideas how to fix it? Any tips for 3rd party apps that could help me?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.2
