The Compass app showing a reading off by 180 degrees could mean that the iPhone is not being held in the proper orientation or that the device is being influenced by a strong magnetic field nearby. This can occur when you're near electronic devices, metal objects, or magnets that disrupt the iPhone's sensors.


To address this, try the following steps:

  1. Ensure you hold the iPhone flat in your hand with the screen facing upwards and align the top of the phone with the direction you wish to measure.
  2. Move to a different location, preferably away from large metal objects, electronic equipment, or areas with strong magnetic interference, such as industrial machinery.
  3. In the Compass app, confirm that the displayed longitude and latitude coordinates are correct and match your actual location. Additionally, ensure the City and State information shown in the app is accurate. See the pic below.
  4. Restart your iPhone to refresh the sensor readings if none of the above steps work.


This should help you achieve a more accurate compass reading.
