How to find title presets?

A strange case was reported on the Japanese site where the preset worked even though the file was not in the original location. How can I find the file?

  • OP wants to organize presets
  • There are no files in the “Text Style” folder
  • Presets are working

If by Titles Presets you mean Text Styles? [I got this from Google Translate...]

You can find the styles you create in Final Cut in:

HOME/Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles.

I'm fairly sure you can delete any unwanted/unused styles (there will be 2 OR 3 each — the plain - no extension - file and a .png image and possibly a "name***_menu.png" file). [Test this out before emptying the Trash.]

I tried adding a Folder ("Special") in this location and a preset ("TEMPESTDEV") inside Special, and **after restarting** FCPX I found this:

(so it appears some organization can be done for styles you create in FCP.)

You will not find the default Text Styles in that location. The defaults provided in FCP are in

Final Cut Pro > Show Package Contents > Contents / Plugins / Media Providers / MotionEffect.fxp / Contents / Library Content / Text Styles. [Inside 2D Styles and 3D Styles]

If you make any changes inside FCP, make sure you back up the original before experimenting!!!!

I personally don't have the guts to play around with files inside FCP — so — good luck with that!

Yes, it's the text style.

HOME/Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles.

It didn't show up in my Finder. Is it because I don't have the Motion app?

It's scary to touch the default contents, so I won't do it.😅 Thank you fox_m.

IF there is another location FCP will use for those who do not have Motion installed, then I don't know it.

I lost contact with the OP, but I received an answer from a person named mariko162 who was having the same problem and said that it was resolved.

It was in here.

I couldn't find the folder "com.apple.FinalCut" because it didn't exist. I don't know of any text style presets that go in this location. Did fox_m know about this place? Is there a folder?

The OP has created custom text styles? If they do, then there has to be a Motion folder.

I wasn't sure if the search would work — Mac OS doesn't generally search "protected" folders.

In the Application Support folder, type Command-Shift-period. This will show any files/folders that are "hidden".
