MacBook Air (2024) not compatible with External CD drive

My new MacBook Air (2024) is not compatible with my External CD drive while my 2018 MacBook Pro and 2019 iMac work with it just fine. When I plug in the drive, nothing happens. It makes a weak little rhythmic sound, but does not load. On the older computers, it pops up with a prompt to select what action you would like for inserting a disc: open Finder, open Music, etc.

Is it just the MacBook Air that won't work with the external disc drive? Will the new MacBook Pro and iMac still work with an external disc drive? Is there anything I can do to get me MacBook Air to work with the drive?
