I have an iphone 8 plus that i bought off of ebay with the description broken home button. I got it and when setting up it automatically detected that the home button was broken and turned on assistive touch. I went through the process and found out that touch id did work. I have two questions. How? and Can i fix this while retaining touch id.

Take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support:
Find Locations - Location Selector - Apple
Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support
Get a Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
Contact Genius Bar.
Manage Reservations - My Reservations - Apple
Return the phone for a refund.
If that is not possible, then make an appointment at the Apple Store or take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop to learn about your options. Please be advised that repairs like this.....if they are possible..... are going to be really expensive.
