Cannot get Apple Fitness to work on Apple TV

I have an Apple Fitness subscription. Normally I mirror the video from my iphone fitness app on my TV that doesn’t not have Apple TV. However, I’m now trying to play the fitness videos on my TV that has Apple TV. When I launch the app on my Apple TV it says “Connect with Apple Device” on the left side of the screen or “Ways to Connect” on the right side of the screen. However, my remote, which works perfectly fine, will not let me select either option. I’ve been searching all over online, looking for an answer and can’t find anything. I’m just trying to use the Fitness app on my Apple TV and I’m completely stuck

As stated in my original post, I have an Apple TV box and I have paid for an Apple TV+ subscription AND also paid for one year of Apple Fitness. I have been mirroring Apple fitness on my basement TV, from my phone, because that basement TV does not have an Apple TV box.

However, now I am trying to use my living room Apple TV to watch Fitness. That TV does have the Apple TV box. When I click on the Fitness app on the screen using my Apple TV remote, I get two options. Please see my original post for the rest of my issues. I cannot get either of those options to do anything.

I am currently signed into my Apple TV. When I go to the Settings app through my Apple TV box, I can see my email address is logged in. My iPhone fitness app is also logged in using the same email. When I launch the Fitness app on my Apple TV box it says “Connect with Apple Device” on the left side of the screen or “Ways to Connect” on the right side of the screen. However, my remote, which works perfectly fine, will not let me select either option and I see nothing about connecting to my iPhone.

Devices you can use with Apple Fitness+ - Apple Support

Apple Fitness+ is available through the Fitness app on the Apple TV box. That is different from smart TVs that support the Apple TV app. The latter will need AirPlay/mirroring.

You can connect with an Apple Watch (preferred because of the metrics that can be measured) or iPhone.
