iMessage and Facetime crashing on Mac

I am having a problem where about 5 days ago my MBP (2019) running Sonoma 14.4.1 the iMessage and Facetime apps decided to freeze and will not reopen - I will get the "application not responding" message.

If I switch to a different profile, they both will work. So the problem is only on my main profile.

I have spent hours looking at this forum and others for solutions. Some things tried without result:

Closing and opening the applications does NOT fix the problem

Rebooting in safe mode does NOT fix the problem

Since the app would not let me log out (it won't open) I couldn't try logging in and out again of the app, so I tried logging out of iCloud in general in settings. This resulted in the computer "hanging" both at logout and at login. It looked like the procedure was not complete, but it was (was it trying unsuccessfully to log into Messages and Facetime? This seems possible. Photos, iCloud storage, and Apple Music work fine. After trying Contacts, it, too does NOT work. I don't use Apple Calendar but this app seems to work.

Thus, logging in and out of iCloud does NOT fix the problem.

One suggestion was to clear the iMessage cache and that did NOT fix the problem.

So I am at a loss. It is clearly something the way any part of iMessage works with my phone is not working only *on this profile* I noted that the last file recording on the cache chat.db was 8:48on the 13th (it's the 17th now) so that is when I assume it quit working.
