Why is my iPad keyboard not popping up?

The keyboard doesn’t automatically pop up on my iPad Air 4 sometimes when I want to type- instead, a keyboard bar that I’ve never seen before appears at the bottom of the screen and I have to click on an “es en” button and then “view keyboard”. And anytime I click on the keyboard down button it goes to that bar too.

This just started happening recently, and I don’t think I changed anything. I tried to go to keyboard settings and change it back but I didn’t see anything to change it. Was it an update or something? How do I get it to auto pop up again? The keyboard pops up correctly all the time on my iPhone 16.
